Allergy test in case of suspected fur allergy
This allergy test includes four combined analyzes that measure the most commonly occurring allergens from dogs and cats as well as horses and cows.
For whom is the allergy test recommended?
If you suspect that you may be allergic to horses, dogs, cows or cats and experience symptoms that can be related to such an allergy, such as a runny nose, sneezing, cough, asthma or skin rashes, our allergy test through a blood test can demonstrate if your levels of IgE antibodies are high. An elevated concentration of IgE antibodies outside the reference value indicate an allergy to the allergen from one or more of these fur animals.
What is fur allergy?
A fur allergy is an allergic reaction to proteins found in the skin, saliva or urine of fur animals such as cats, dogs or horses. When a person who is allergic to fur or hypersensitive comes into contact with these proteins, it can trigger an allergic reaction. Symptoms may include sneezing, runny or stuffy nose, itchy and red eyes, cough and, in severe cases, difficulty breathing or skin rash. Although it is called fur allergy, it is not the fur itself that causes the allergy, but often the allergenic proteins found on the fur animal's skin (dander), but also in saliva and urine.
What are allergens and which are included in the allergy test?
Allergens are substances that can cause an allergic reaction in sensitive people. When a person with an allergy comes into contact with an allergen, the immune system reacts. You can read more about each allergen and IgE antibodies under markers below to gain more insight into what is measured and which symptoms can be expressed in fur allergy.
Detailed test results for each allergen
Your test results are reported for each specific allergen (allergy marker) included. The allergy test should not be confused with common allergy panels where you do not see which specific allergen you may have a hypersensitivity to or are allergic to.
It is important to note that an allergy test cannot detect or rule out an allergy 100%, the analysis can be used as a supplement to your possible symptoms and disease picture.
